In December 2014, the Department of Fair Trading
introduced a mandatory licensing system for many trades including paintless dent repairs. In September 2015, exemptions were introduced to include low risk repair situation to NOT require licensing. Please note that anything that affects the safety of the vehicle are not covered by these exemptions.
The following document makes mention of the exemptions to licensing of low risk repairs including paintless dent repairs. Please read carefully to ensure you have effectively and appropriately interpreted the rulings that affect your businesses or possible future ventures. As an example, one model which is widespread across in the industry is to hire fully qualified panel beaters to remove and replace parts that could be deemed higher risk to safety whilst the repairs of the panels (low risk repairs) can be done by paintless dent repair technicians.
I-car courses are being introduced to keep even qualified workers up to date with the latest technologies including sensors, braking, airbags and so forth that even if accidentally tampered with can breach handling and safety of vehicles. Please contact I-Car Australia to see what appropriate courses may benefit you.
We welcome any applicant to simply try our certificate PDR courses – we can train anyone from bankers to mechanics, car detailers, spray painters and of course panel beaters!
